Carol Martinez / Gypsy Paths

It is with deep sadness that I have to report the death of fellow blogger Carol Jeanne Martinez (Carolhehe on AOL) who used to write Gypsy Paths. A year ago last August, she reported that she had been diagnosed with cancer, but the problems started as early as 2009. Chemotherapy was to no avail in the end, and Carol passed away peacefully at home on 28 September 2011, at the comparatively early age of 60. Carol was buried ten days later. A motorcycle procession was held in her honour to Plymouth WA, before her interment. Further details in her local paper (from where I link the portrait, left).

Carol, you fought valiantly against an intractable foe. I am pleased you are now beyond pain and suffering, but hope those that are left behind will be given the strength needed to cope with your loss.

Liz / Visual Counterpoint

Liz has resumed blogging on her journal Visual Counterpoint, although she has had to change the URL. I have flagged up Liz before. She is in an extremely fragile state of mind at the best of times, so I ask for the utmost delicacy in dealing with her.

Can Anyone Help?

Due to things going on in my life, I completely missed the Anniversary of my blog last month. Is there anyone out there able to do graphics who could make me a graphic for my sidebar.

It has to be the right size to fit and it only needs to say " 7 Years Blogging" or "Seven Years Blogging".

I would be so grateful. Perhaps someone could also pass this request on to Facebook as I know many bloggers have now made their homes there. Thank you.

Aileen / Wishful Thinking

I have only just discovered Aileen's blog, which details her battle against mouth cancer (a particularly nasty form of cancer) and other, multiple, health problems. Please call round to offer support.

Jeannette / Outside looking in

Jeannette has made a posting on her blog, and it looks as if she needs a lot of support. Please call round.

Housekeeping message

I have altered the arrangements for posting on this blog. The same people who used to have permissions to post (Jeannette, Yasmin and myself) still have permissions, but in order to minimise spam and other garbage, I have removed links to blogs. This blog is not very much used these days, following the move to Facebook.

Talking of which, I have removed the link to the Call for Support Facebook group, as the settings for that have been changed to Secret. Anyone wishing to join will have to come through Morton Lake, Tawnya E Gregory or myself. The Kontactr button in the sidebar links to my email address.

I apologise for centralising this on myself.

Rebecca Robertson / Journeyzpath

Rebecca Robertson, known to us in J-land as journeyzpath, has passed away after a battle with breast cancer. I have been unable to track down her old AOL journal, and have found only snippets of old comments on other people's blogs. I believe she discontinued her blog at the time of the Jland break-up in 2008, and has taken herself off Facebook a while ago. Not everybody is prepared or able to record the progression of a serious disease like breast cancer on the Internet.

Rebecca was a life-coach and I remember her blog as being along those lines. I am genuinely sad to hear of her death, as she was a good soul. Her star has now set below the horizon of life, but her pain and suffering at least are at an end.

Apologies

Yesterday, I posted about the death of a J-lander - who appears to be very much alive and well.
I apologise to you all for this very poor piece of research on my part, and for any distress caused.

I am still chasing up the correct identity of the Becky who died of breast cancer earlier this week, and would like to ask you to keep in thoughts or prayer the friends and family of this lady.

Feel free to leave your tributes there, or whichever place you feel appropriate.

Deb / Fugtastick

I was contacted by Deb Young, with the following message:

I have a 25 yr old son, Daniel who contracted Hepatitis C 9 months ago. The virus has now progressed to end stage as of my writing and we are still waiting months for his medicaid decision to begin chemotherapy. Daniel has received no treatment since diagnosis because he has no medical insurance and now has a prognosis of 1 year if treatment is not started in the next 4 weeks. The fact this could have been treated and his life saved but for lack of a doctor caring sickens me, his mother and his father.

Thank you again,
Deborah & John Young
Exeter NH USA

Daniel keeps a blog, Fugtastick. Please leave a comment for encouragement and support.

Lori / Loris Letterbox

I regret to confirm that Lori Johnson passed away at the age of 66 on February 16th. She had been suffering from cancer for some time, and particularly the last weeks and months of her life were very hard for her. I am pleased though that she and her husband had a nice roadtrip last year, which had to be curtailed due to her deteriorating medical condition.

The news is late getting out, as Lori's email address was compromised earlier this week. Please do NOT use this, as it is in the process of being closed down.

Grief

Beth has posted a very good entry on the subject of grief. Bearing in mind the subject matter of this blog, I think it appropriate to relay the link here - we can all recognise this.

Just Plain Bill - update

I have received this email from Bill Jr (justplainbill's son), which I copy below. He is offering to send me a memorial card, which (upon receipt) I shall scan and post in the group, as well as on the Call for Support blog.

Dear Guido,

Many apologies for not writing earlier. Candidly, my family and I are having a devil of a time coming to terms with this loss. My Dad was one of the planet's most spectacular people. He was a terrific husband, an unbelievable father, and an amazing grandfather. We all feel his loss so profoundly and we are still numb, going just from day to day. But having spoken to my father many times about his internet friends, I can assure you how treasured you were to him and how much he enjoyed your company and spending "cyber-time" with you.

Please send me a mailing address when you can, and I will send you off a memorial card.

Thank you so much for sharing your and your web-mates' comments about my Dad. I will be sure to pass them along to my Mother.

Please keep him in your prayers.

Warmly,

Bill Janssen
